About this tool

AVIF is a newer image format that many websites now use because it gives very small files at high quality. The catch is support: a lot of photo viewers, editors, printing services and upload forms still cannot open .avif files. Converting to JPG gives you a picture that works everywhere.

Your browser decodes the AVIF and the converter saves it as a JPG at the quality you choose, filling any transparent areas with the colour you pick. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can read AVIF; if yours cannot read the file, you see a message rather than a broken download. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions people ask

Why can I not open AVIF files?
AVIF is still new, so many apps and older systems have not added support yet. JPG has worked everywhere for decades.
Which browsers can convert AVIF?
Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and recent versions of Safari, can read AVIF. On an older browser, update it first or use another device.
Will the JPG be bigger than the AVIF?
Usually, yes. AVIF compresses more efficiently than JPG, so expect a larger file in exchange for one that opens everywhere.
