About this tool

Files ending in .aac usually come from call recorders, radio and podcast captures, or Android recording apps. AAC sounds good at small sizes, but car stereos, older MP3 players, some editors and many upload forms only take MP3. This converter re-encodes your AAC audio as an MP3 at the quality you choose.

Because both formats are lossy, pick a bitrate at or above the original: 192 kbps is a safe choice for most music and 128 kbps for speech. Browsers cannot create MP3 files, so the conversion runs on our server with FFmpeg after you agree to the upload. Files are private and deleted within 30 minutes.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between AAC and M4A?
AAC is the audio codec. A .aac file is a bare AAC stream, while .m4a wraps AAC (or Apple Lossless) in an MPEG-4 container with room for titles and artwork. Both convert the same way here.
Will converting reduce the quality?
Every lossy-to-lossy conversion loses a little. Choosing an MP3 bitrate at or above the AAC's original bitrate keeps the difference hard to hear.
Is my recording kept private?
Yes. It is stored privately, reachable only through your session, and deleted within 30 minutes, or straight away when you press Delete my files now.
