About this tool

FLAC and WAV hold the same kind of audio; FLAC just packs it smaller. Some DAWs, DJ programs, samplers, CD burning tools and older hardware only read WAV, so unpacking FLAC to WAV is the usual fix. The conversion adds no compression, so the WAV sounds exactly like the FLAC.

In most current browsers the conversion runs entirely on your device, so even large tracks are not uploaded. Browser conversions produce 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV, which is CD quality; hi-res FLAC files are reduced to that resolution. If your browser cannot read a file, you can convert it on our server instead, where the WAV keeps the original sample rate.

Questions people ask

Will the WAV sound different from the FLAC?
No. FLAC is lossless and WAV is uncompressed, so they sound the same. The WAV is simply about twice the size.
What happens to 24-bit or 96 kHz FLAC files?
Browser conversions save 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV, which is CD quality. Server conversions keep the original sample rate but also save 16-bit audio.
Should I keep the FLAC?
Yes. Convert to WAV only for the software or device that needs it. For listening and storage FLAC is the better format, because it is about half the size.
