About this tool

FLAC is perfect for keeping music without any loss, but the files are large and plenty of places refuse them: many car stereos, older MP3 players, some phone apps and Apple Music. Converting a track to MP3 makes it a fraction of the size and playable everywhere.

Choose 320 kbps if you want an MP3 that sounds as close to the FLAC as the format allows; in a casual listen most people cannot tell them apart. 192 kbps is a good space-saver for phones. A typical four-minute FLAC track of 25 to 35 MB fits within the 50 MB limit. The conversion runs on our server with FFmpeg after you agree to the upload, and files are deleted within 30 minutes.

Questions people ask

Which bitrate should I pick?
320 kbps keeps the most detail and is the closest to the original FLAC. 192 kbps makes files about 40 percent smaller and still sounds good for most listening. Keep 128 kbps for speech.
Will the MP3 keep my tags and album art?
No. Titles, artist names and cover art are removed during conversion to keep files private, so you may need to tag the MP3 again in your music app.
Can I convert hi-res 24-bit FLAC files?
Yes. MP3 does not store bit depth, and audio above 48 kHz is resampled to a rate MP3 supports. That makes no audible difference for normal listening.
Can I convert a whole album at once?
Not yet. Files are converted one at a time, with five server conversions per visitor per day.
