About this tool

Word's own Save as Web Page adds a lot of extra markup. This converter turns a .docx file into clean HTML: real headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and links, with the images built into the page, so the single .html file opens anywhere and can be emailed or uploaded on its own.

You get a complete page with light, readable styling. To paste the content into WordPress or another website editor, open the code view and copy what sits between the body tags. Fonts, colours and page layout from Word are not copied: the page uses its own simple style. The conversion runs on our server with Pandoc after you agree to the upload, and your file is deleted as soon as the result is ready.

Questions people ask

Are the images included?
Yes. They are built into the HTML file, so the page shows them without a separate images folder. That makes the file larger than the text alone.
Can I use the HTML in WordPress?
Yes. Open the code view, copy the part between <body> and </body>, and paste it into the code editor of your page or post. Your theme then supplies the fonts and colours.
Does it keep my fonts and colours?
No. The converter keeps the structure of the document (headings, lists, tables, emphasis and links) and leaves the styling to the web page, which is what most websites expect.
Good to know

Before you publish the HTML

Add alt text in Word

Image descriptions you add in Word (right-click an image, then Edit Alt Text) become the alt text of each image, which helps screen readers and search engines.

Watch the file size

Images are built into the page, so a document full of photos makes a large HTML file. Compress the pictures in Word first if the page will be emailed.

Let your site do the styling

Copy only the body when pasting into a website, so your theme's fonts and colours apply instead of the converter's simple style.
