About this tool
Markdown is quick to write, but colleagues, clients and teachers often want a Word file. Paste your Markdown or upload an .md file, and you get a .docx document where # headings become Word's own Heading styles (so the navigation pane and a table of contents work), lists stay lists, tables become Word tables and code blocks keep a fixed-width font.
The converter reads GitHub-flavoured Markdown, including tables, task lists, strikethrough, footnotes and maths. Images are included only when they are built into the Markdown itself; images linked from websites or from your computer are left out, and the page tells you how many. The conversion runs on our server with Pandoc after you agree to the upload, and nothing is kept afterwards.

Getting a tidy Word file
Start with a title
Add a YAML block with a title at the top, or begin with a # heading, so the Word file opens with a clear title.
Restyle in one go
Change Word's Heading and Normal styles to restyle the whole document at once, instead of formatting paragraph by paragraph.
Add linked images in Word
Images linked by address are left out and their descriptions stay in the text, so you can see where to insert each one.
