About this tool
Co-authors, reviewers and some journals want Word files even when you write in LaTeX. Upload a .tex file or paste LaTeX source, and you get a .docx document where sections become Word headings and equations become native Word equations you can still edit. Tables, lists, footnotes, emphasis and your own \newcommand shortcuts are converted as well.
The converter only sees the single file you send, so \input and \include files, figures stored as separate images and your .bib bibliography are not available. Citations show as (key?) so you can find and fix them. The conversion runs on our server with Pandoc after you agree to the upload, and nothing is kept afterwards.
Questions people ask
Are equations editable in Word?
Why do citations show as (key?)?
Can I upload a whole Overleaf project?
Before you convert a .tex file
Merge your files first
Paste the contents of every \input or \include file into one .tex file, as only that one file is read.
Fix citations afterwards
Search the Word file for ?) to find each citation marked with its key, and replace it with the formatted reference.
Insert figures by hand
Images are separate files in a LaTeX project, so the converter cannot include them. Insert them in Word where their captions appear.
